# DATA-7 — Inside a node, a wire outranks configuration outranks the default

## The rule

> **Normative.** This is the rule.
>
> 1. Within a node, a value delivered on an input port outranks the value the author configured on that node, which outranks the port's schema default.
>
> 2. Presence is decided key by key at every level, so an explicit `null` at a higher level wins over a value at a lower one.
