# STORE-11 — Status vocabularies are closed sets of strings

## The rule

> **Normative.** This is the rule.
>
> 1. Job, pipeline, session and message status are each a closed vocabulary.
>
> 2. A status is a string, and one spelling serves everywhere: what is persisted is what every JSON payload carries and what every event carries.
>
> 3. An implementation must not persist one spelling and publish another.
