# LANG-10 — Expression-language validation is a syntax check only

## The rule

> **Normative.** This is the rule.
>
> 1. Validating an expression-language expression checks its syntax, with every identifier the expression mentions treated as declared.
>
> 2. A reference to a name that will not exist when the workflow runs therefore validates successfully and fails at run time.
